I have been an athlete most of my life. Sailing first, a youth World bronze in the Laser, and since then the longer kind of endurance: a ultra running, triathlon, the mountain bike,.
But the real reason I keep moving is that it is where I think. Something loosens when the body is busy and the mind is left a little idle. The best ideas tend to arrive on a walk, or halfway up a hill, or while picking berries, rarely at the desk.
And motion has a twin: stillness. The walk and the run give the mind its energy; sitting still gives it somewhere to land. Restlessness and rest, held in an equilibrium, the way you climb a mountain.
